What I Do
Design triangle friendly patterns that inspire challenge.
Illustrate technical drawings for my visual learners.
Write detailed instructions for my readers.
Teach to address frustrations and build confidence.
Build a healthy and positive community that supports each quilter.
Hi there! I'm Mitzie, and I am so glad you are here! I wear a lot of hats and I get called a lot of things. My favorites these days are child of God, partner, mom, non-profit consultant, teacher, friend, and of course, quilter!
I make my home under the big Carolina country sky with my husband Jason, two kids, and our new puppies.
How it All Started
In 2016, two years after being diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder that robbed me of running and pottery, I found quilting and the Modern Quilt Guild in Columbia, SC. My new quilt friends introduced me to SWAPS on Instagram for Christmas. Without even realizing it, I designed my first pattern, the Crooked Christmas Tree. I got so many requests for the pattern, I set out to learn how to design in Adobe Illustrator and EQ8. It has been a great hobby for me. In November of 2020 the All the Good Quilt Pattern went crazy on IG and I decided to focus my designs (at least for now) on triangles and improv. My new patterns are now being written for PDF download and in printed format.
Why Community Matters to Me
When I started quilting, I heard a lecture at my first quilt show about how quilting is dying. As the youngest person in the room, I was ticked. Until that moment, most of the quilters I new were young and learning. Dying? NO! But this group also seemed to care more about perfection than learning.
At Jittery Wings, it will always be about building confidence and learning new skills! Perfection is a great thing to strive for, but seriously, we are here to relax and have fun! We are here to grow together.
